Xavier McFarlin (b. 1994, Landstuhl, Germany) Through video, photography, sculpture, and painting, McFarlin draws upon his multicultural background to interrogate the complexity of potential futures from the perspective of supernatural characters. McFarlin involves his own body and collaborates with individuals in his communities to create new worlds. Returning to Texas at the age of 18 after coming of age in Okinawa, Japan - McFarlin began making art as a way to explore his queer black/latinx identity.
McFarlin earned his BFA in photography from Parsons School of Design in 2019. Mcfarlin’s work has been presented in group exhibitions at BRIC Gallery, Brooklyn, NY; Aperture Gallery, New York, NY; Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN; at the Institute for Aesthetic Advocacy, Minneapolis, MN; and most recently the 2021 Texas Biennial. McFarlin currently lives and works in New York, NY.
